A good idea

I liked the premise, I liked what the book was going for. But the writing felt distracted and wordy for no reason. And it was told from too many perspectives. It would have worked better if it just stuck to one or two perspectives, maybe just Jal and Saint, or even just Jal.

Gore, sure. I really liked the descriptions of human behavior from a "non-human" perspective.

It is as if feedback was heard, and in order to try to fix it, the first chapter is from the end of the story... it does make it slightly better, but doesn't make the first half of the book any faster. It is still long and drawn out.

Almost didn't read this book because The Color of Magic was so bad.
