Old Man's War

The first two thirds of the book feel like a plotless military story, i guess some people might like that sort of thing. But to me it felt kinda pointless. Yet overall it feels like the world building and character development was necessary, but there didn't feel like there was a pay off at the end. I hope a future book answers some of the motivations, they never answer the question as to why humans are colonizing, leaving a bad taste for me, as if the assumption is that humans must by default be colonizers.

It's a good and well written book, the only thing that really keeps me from getting hooked is an ultimate goal, there seems to be no end to this war and what follows is a never ending story.
This doesn't have to be the case, it is also a short book and as such could very well be just a build up to some ultimate goal to come in a sequel.

Found as EN "boxed set" and read the trilogy (with The Ghost Brigades and The Last Colony) in less than a week (nights mainly). Many interesting ideas.

Kindle app said I'd not read it, so I started late on an evening when I was too tired for anything too hard. Enjoyable adventure

This is a book I'm glad I started on an airplane where I had nowhere to be for several hours. Otherwise I would have been up far later than planned or terribly late for something. Book had an interesting concept, fun writing, well paced, and pretty much everything I look for in science fiction. Of course, there are many more books in this series so I suspect that I'll be reading more of them soon.

Part Ender's Game (without the hero worship) part Starship Troppers (without the fascism) and quite a lot of fun. A few plot errors (one pertaining to the whereabouts of the crew of the Sparrowhawk spring to mind) and a couple of "just so"-moments took a little bit away from it.
