I like the X-Minus One version better.....
3 stars
I don't know, for me, it was a very slow read. The radio version of this short story had better timing, and pacing. But I guess it would almost have too right, I took this story and turned it into a radio drama of about 25 minutes.
Really, the story is the same, they didn't change much from what I remember about the X Minus One version. I think names were changed, probably just so they didn't have to use silly names. And in the story there is a visual clue the two main characters use (with out saying too much if you haven't heard or read the story) they use it to identify each other. The radio program changed that to an audio clue. (Which doesn't really change the story at all, and radio being an audio format, makes perfect since.)
The only other difference I can think of …

The only other difference I can think of is X Minus One made the short story even shorter by cutting some of "investigation" out of it.
Which I think was a smart move, that was really a part of the story that seemed to hold me up quite a bit.
Maybe because I heard the radio drama before, and have been a fan of it for years. This story just seemed to drag on, when it didn't really need too. But again, maybe because I already knew what the overall outcome was going to be? I already knew the story. May that is why the written story was slow?
I don't know, honestly, it's a good story, if you haven't heard the X-Minus One version, don't until you read the story. If you have heard it, IMHO it's better, faster paced, and just over all better - I wouldn't waste the time reading the story, unless you just have some time to kill and want something to read. Like I said, it's a good story.
