An Amazing, Painful Journey through the History of Racist Thought in America

I was literally moved to tears by the end of this book. What's so powerful here is the clear throughline that Kendi paints from pre-colonial Europe to the present day, showing the inescapable connections in racist thought and methods between eras. What emerges is a picture of painfully slow, incremental progress, with the finish line still far from sight. Within the book are unflinching analyses and indictments of American ideology, politics, science, business, academia, entertainment, and pretty much any other sector you can name. Highly recommend

This book eloquently chronicles the whole, bitter history of racism, connecting all these events together in an engaging progression of racist and antiracist thought and actions over the years. It expertly exposes the shortcomings of various attacks on racism and shows the ways in which racist power has been able to continue largely uninterrupted for such a long time.

This is, hands-down, the best book I've read this year, and easily all-time top 5 non-fiction for me.

I'm going to have to do some processing, and hopefully write a longer review. But I cannot recommend this highly enough. It is thorough, well-written, and will make you very uncomfortable.
