An Expansive, Rich Examination of Asian American and Pacific Islander Women's Experiences
5 stars
This research compilation presents an excellent foray into the historical experiences of Asian American and Pacific Islander women from many geographies, in addition to strong analytical work that bridges those experiences to the present. In addition there are a number of more in depth, qualitative chapters that dig into a few figures and their impact.
I especially liked the chapters that spent time on the history of specific Pacific islands and their subsequent entanglement with the US. The chapter on Sāmoan American women by Manumaua Luafata Simanu-Klutz was particularly enlightening, as was the chapter by Sharleen Santos-Bamba and Anne Perez Hattori on language, women, and the Chamorros of Guam. Highly recommend the whole book
