Writing style puts me off

The writer is an explorer who definitely has loads of fascinating stories to tell. He is after all the first person to reach the north pole, south pole and the summit of the mount Everest on foot. Unfortunately, this book didn't feel engaging at all, and the writing style didn't resonate with me.
