It’d be a complete understatement for me to say I’ve really been anticipating this book. Like many, I loved I Am Pilgrim and kept being let down by delays of this book’s arrival. I won an advance copy of this novel from Goodreads, and so boy, was I pumped to start reading it over the holidays!
I was disappointed. The first half of this book was everything I’d hoped - a great story, a solid plot, likable protagonist, etc. The second half of the book took such a weird turn… I had to check a couple times to make sure I was reading the same book!

I give this first half of this book 5 stars, and the second half about 2 stars.
Throughout, Hayes’ writing and storytelling were great. The way the details and backstories are revealed was excellent. I’m just sad that it ended the way it did, and I’m left wondering about the loose threads from the first half that never god resolved, much less addressed.
