In San Francisco, former head of Scotland Yard Sir Frederic Bruce pursues the long-cold trail of a murderer. 16 years previously, a London solicitor had been killed. The only clue - the Chinese slippers he wore. At the same time there was another mystery: a series of women around the world had vanished - and all were linked to the disappearance of a woman in India, named Eve Durand. But then, at a dinner party attended by important guests, Inspector Bruce is killed - and he had been wearing a pair of Chinese slippers. Now it's left to Chan to solve the case.
