A Thorough, Informative Examination of Modern Arab History

Starting at the height of the Ottoman Empire and continuing to modern times, this is an in-depth, compelling history of the Arab world, detailing the changing contours of power, ideology, and identity over ~500 years. While much of the focus is on the relationships and motivations of players within the region, interactions with Europe, the US, and Zionists are also examined here. This book gives good context for the current regional landscape and what other paths might have been taken in recent decades. Highly recommend
